6 kW Dual-MPPT Residential Hybrid Solar Installation – Kano

Project Overview

6 kW Growatt Dual-MPPT Hybrid • 4.88 kWp JinkoSolar PV • 15 kWh Aurora Lithium Battery Storage

This residential installation in Kano uses a dual-MPPT Growatt hybrid inverter to accommodate two separate JinkoSolar PV groups with different module ratings. Each PV group is assigned to its own independent MPPT input, allowing the inverter to track and optimise the operating point of each array independently.

System Configuration

  • Location: Kano, Nigeria
  • Application: Residential hybrid solar system
  • Hybrid Inverter: 1 × Growatt 6 kW hybrid inverter with two independent MPPT inputs
  • MPPT 1: 4 × JinkoSolar 620 W modules — 2.48 kWp
  • MPPT 2: 6 × JinkoSolar 400 W modules — 2.40 kWp
  • Total Solar PV: 10 JinkoSolar modules — 4.88 kWp total installed PV capacity
  • Battery Storage: 1 × Aurora 15 kWh lithium battery
  • Protection: Complete required AC, DC and PV protection installed and intact
  • Scope: PV installation, dual-MPPT array integration, inverter and battery integration, electrical protection, system configuration, testing and commissioning

Engineering Approach

Because the installation uses two different PV module ratings, the 620 W and 400 W arrays are kept on separate MPPT channels rather than combined on the same tracker. This allows each PV group to operate at its own optimum voltage and current point while the Growatt inverter manages both inputs as part of one hybrid energy system.

Project Outcome

The completed installation delivers a 6 kW residential hybrid power system with 4.88 kWp of solar generation and 15 kWh of lithium battery storage. The dual-MPPT architecture enables effective utilisation of the mixed-capacity PV arrays while maintaining independent tracking, complete electrical protection and dependable household backup capability.
